VALUE finitude: A NOTE ON "MEET JOE BLACK"

Criticism is not treated well Meet Joe Black (1998), Martin Brest, but it's one of my favorite American films by its narrative and mythical background. Intrigued by a conversation between a boy and his father, Death (Brad Pitt) decide to take the body of a young and spend some time among mortals, to learn about the secrets of life. Staying at the home of businessman Bill Parrish - who revealed her identity, who warns that remaining few days of life - for lessons about what it means to live fully. The beings that belong to the realm of eternal can not orient but under the guidance of a mortal. Parrish considered a man of integrity and is very curious about his brief speech about the need to experience the storms of love and passion. He soon falls in love with Susan (the daughter, a doctor, played by Claire Forlani) and Death is wrapped in its own internal storm. Well known power struggles that have shaken the firm of Parrish, family nodes, the plotting of the Chamber Directory.
I'm not going to focus my reflection on the aesthetic or formal side of the film, I will leave that to specialists. Despite the various passages of the film naive, I think it develops an interesting point. I like the argument. Listening in two men talk, Death is perceived to be missing something important. His infinite and eternal perspective has not allowed however, to contact the pain, love, confusion, uncertainty, and in general everything that makes human beings cling to this life. Black Joe learns to recognize the fullness in the little things in the flavor of peanut butter, ride through the city, the soft touch of the hair of the woman he loves, the fear of losing. All that he was completely unknown. Requires infinite finite, Hegel said, without a world, God is not God. Now Death is wiser, because he faced the experience of the negative: the (inter) dependence, absence, longing, need. We must pay special attention to the scene where Black talks to a terminal patient Jamaican on the meaning of life, loneliness and the value of memories, how this woman becomes a master of Death lucid about what which means a life and prepare for what follows. When Death be removed - in that memorable scene of the Hill birthday party, in which Joe and Bill covered captivated the fireworks - he does so with great regret, for he has finally understood the value of the finite . Susan separate, disconnected from the beauty and magic kingdom the temporal. There is nothing more difficult to let go of what you love most. Back to the horizon of eternity is for him a painful effort. Never thought your way through the world of mortals could change that way your perspective on things. He has learned to respect and value human beings, those fleeting creatures that once collected almost without looking. Know their addictions, their strengths and their misery in a way that is unprecedented. Wisdom has been hitherto unknown among the immortals.
